LouLou asked: I just got a new tub wall put in. The man who installed it put 100% silicone around it including the top by the ceiling and on the edges. But I have to paint and where he put it on it is on the wall a little and on my crown moulding. I tried to paint but the paint won’t stick at all. I’m trying to take the silicone off now, with great difficulty. What can I do?
The silicon is up on my crown molding and too hard to reach to remove. Can I apply a normal paintable silicone over it? I don’t want to have to hire a carpnter to come in and replace my crown moldings.

smf_hi asked: We just finished installing some urethane oak finish crown moulding and filled nail holes and gaps with some oak finish wood putty. When we sanded down the wood putty, the sanding process removes some finish from the moulding so it doesn’t match the rest of the moulding, the white urethane shows through. We were thinking of lightly sanding all of the moulding and then trying to stain the moulding so the appearance would be uniform, but aren’t sure how well that would work, if the stain would “stick” to the urethane moulding. Our other option is to paint the moulding, but we are also concerned that if we don’t like the results after staining, if we would be able to paint over the stained portion with white latex paint. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

antonio v asked: The rise is 3 5/8″. I plan on using 2 1/2″ finish nails with a nail gun. For nailing into ceiling, I udnerstand that I can just cross nail into ceiling where the ceiling joists run parallel to the wall & nail into studs on the wall. I understand that if crown is over 5″, then backer needed??? Any answers would help.

kyhndakooky asked: We are redecorating (new carpet, paint, crown and baseboards) and want to be sure it’s done in the proper order. We’ll be hiring professionals to do this but aren’t sure where to begin. The popcorn is off the ceilings, thank goodness!
